rain, rain go away ...

Click here to view the (3.2MB) video.

Well, I have to say the ongoing precipitation is getting old. Rivers are raging, land is sliding, avalaches are threatening and/or blocking major interstate highways. Not to say we are enduring a natural disaster anywhere near the scale or proportions that our world has seen in recent months and years. But the amount of gray skies and precipitation we've been dealt in the Pacific NW during the month of January is taking it's toll. I'm ready for some sunshine! Seems someone got tired of waiting and shipped in some of the artificial variety.

Saturday night out ... the disco ball was mesmerizing, as was the company. The band, not so much. LOL, anyway ... thought I'd share a moment.

Ended up on a ferry on Friday, for work. Seized the opportunity to capture some video ... thought the lighting was somewhat intriguing as the cars passed through while loading onto the ferry.

blues & grays

More cloud pattern for your viewing pleasure ~ 01.23.06

Clouds cover the blue ~ 01.23.06

Where's Rainier? Can you see her peeking out? ~ 01.23.06

These three photos were all shot within 15 minutes of each other as I traveled from the Eastside (of Lake Washington) to Seattle this afternoon. Blue skies to gray ones. Not complaining though, I didn't get rained on at all today. Yay!

atchoo!

Balloons, with a side of lens flare. ; ) ~ 01.14.06

I've been a bit absent from the blog lately ... I'll work on getting back into the swing of things this week. Meanwhile, the Seahawks are going to Super Bowl XL! It'll be their first-ever trip to the big game. Interestingly enough, I don't usually pay any attention to football (unless I'm behind a camera). Yet, much to my own surprise, the past few weeks I've watched the playoff games. Yeah, I know some of you are cringing about now but I think it's clear that I've been afflicted with the playoff bug that's been going around. Atchoo! Don't worry, it's minor ... there's no face paint, jersey wearing or beer guzzling involved. I must admit though, I've actually had fun with it ... and I'm looking forward to the big game in a few weeks. ; ) LOL. Go Hawks!

random routine

Look! A bit of blue sky peeks through the clouds at sunset. ~ 01.11.06

Lightpost seeming to appear out of nowhere ~ 01.11.06

A slightly obstructed view of downtown from the I-90 / I-5 interchange. ~ 01.11.06

It's sort of becoming a routine to use the commute as a chance to randomly capture images. Okay, maybe not a routine ... but I'm enjoying the time. Rather than sitting in traffic and being irritated about it. ; ) It's been raining here for days. Something like 24 consecutive days with over 3/4 of an inch accumulated. Yeah, it's a record of some sort. We got a break during the commute this evening. But they think we'll continue to have significant rain through the weekend. Pretty soon we'll be gathering the animals, two by two.

signs

So, I'm one of those people who believe in signs. Fight it as I might, I always end up thinking there could be some greater meaning to certain things that we happen upon in life.

This evening I was leaving a party, headed home early because I'm feeling a bit puny. Anyway, I happened to be leaving at the same time as a small group of other party-goers (that I don't know). As I pulled up to the stop sign behind them ... I saw this.

Maybe it's a sign I should smile more : ) -- 01.07.06

Not sure if you can see it clearly, look beside the right brake light. I had to lighten this photo an insane amount for it to show up at all. But someone drew in the dirt on the car and it says, "Katherine" with a smiley face in front of it. I had to follow them for about two miles until we hit a stop light so I could get a photo. Okay so this may not be a 'sign' ... but I still thought there was something mysterious about seeing your name written upon a random vehicle, and with a smiley beside it no less. Come on, you know you would have followed them too! Well, at least I got a smile out of it. ; )

sailing the sound

A sail dances in the wind as sailboats float on the Puget Sound ~ 01.07.06

The Olympic mountains peek out as sailors cruise the Sound. ~ 01.07.06

Some kind of regatta I suppose was the occasion today. Maybe not a race but a definite gathering of like-minds. It seemed there were more than a hundred sailboats cruising the Sound today, despite the random downpour of rain.

over-powered

Rainbow power! ~ Monroe, WA ~ 12.28.05

On the road ... destination unknown ~ 12.28.05

On the road ... slightly eery (but welcome) sunshine ~ 12.28.05

Sunshine and blue sky meet storm clouds ~ 12.28.05

Little bit of unexpected fun when the sunshine over-powered a storm (briefly). Cropped the rainbow image a tad, but the blur of the power lines is from the rain on my windshield. A stop sign was handy for a short interval while composing. ; )

Made a little video of the sounds & sights of 2006 making it's way in last night. It's far from the best visually, but the audio gets the message across. Happy New Year!

I was recently introduced to the Seattle Weekly horoscopes, which seem to always be a fun read. And though I've been picking up a copy of the paper from my local corner paper box, I just discovered they're on line! Look in the 'links' to the right. Enjoy!
