explore. dream. discover.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~ Mark Twain

Hi, Katherine... I like the quote. It makes me feel good about my summer this year. :)

I see you're a photojournalist. Is there anywhere we can see your work? I'm an avid amateur (Canon Rebel XT, and I just picked up a little Kodak CX7330 yesterday to carry around in case I see something nifty), and I wonder if you're keeping a site where you share the tricks of the trade. Any chance? :)

Hey, lone primate. Thanks for the comment, and I'm glad you liked the quote!

Yep, I'm a photojournalist. I do have a website with my work on it ... but I'd rather not post that URL here (I'm trying to keep my work somewhat separate from this blog). For you, I will make a point to post some images here though. I just bought a digi p&s myself ... to carry around when I'm not working. It has the ability to record audio & video as well, and I'm having a blast with it. As for tricks of the trade ... I don't keep a site. But I'm happy to share any knowledge I have if/when you have questions. I've found this site to be a great resource for most information involving digital photography as well.

Best,
K.

That's certainly understandable. I guess I'm pretty guarded about particulars myself in this medium.

I'd be much obliged! I'm sincerely interested in seeing what someone with an eye can bring to the world. Love to to begin to acquire those skills of observation myself, and the skills to capture them as well.

Heh, same here. I actually succumbed to an age-old urge this morning and video-taped my drive up the highway with In the Evening by Led Zeppelin playing. Just reviewed it. Yeah, okay, a little irresponsible, but cool. :)

I knew you'd understand ... seeing as I don't even know your first name. ; )

You have begun to acquire those skills ... I've seen some of your work! It's all in the perception. I know you know all these photos you've been shooting started the acquisition long ago.

I'll work on posting some images this evening.

Sounds like a great way to begin the day! As an aside, I want to learn more about editing and streaming web video. Know anything about either?

Oh, it's Lone. But the letters are pronounced differently... the "e" is pronounced like a "d", for instance. :)

There's an excellent excellent program a friend working for the CBC showed me last spring for editing video files. It's called Womble MPEG Video Wizard. Fantastic in what it enables you to do, but extremely straightforward to use. There's a 15-day full-function downloadable available here.

As for streaming the results onto the web, not really to sure. Moved out of websites as a hobby before that became common... not that I had anything stream. :) But this looks like it might be a good place to start.

Ummm, so your name is spelled Lone ... but pronounced Lond? Or are you just messing with me? 'Cause when you added "for instance" it kinda seemed like you were messing with me. ; ) Had this fleetly thought that it's a puzzle I'm meant to work through or something. : ) Hard to tell when there not a voice or facial expression to read as well.

Bummer, it's not available for mac. Thanks for the suggestion though.

It does look like a good place to start. Thanks!

The "L" is pronounced like a "t". Oh, and the "n" is silent. :)

Ah, I tend to forget not everyone follows the official cyberfaith. But there must be something similar out there. You know, I think the full version of Quicktime can edit video files.
